STEP FORWARD

After thousand years, the urge to preserve the traditional culture remains the same among us. Even though Chinese traditional culture has a long period of history, we, the descendants of the dragon, strongly believe that we ourselves have the responsibility to preserve and promote the culture inherited from the past generations. Chinese traditions and culture are deep in its thinking. Due to the same culture, belief, spirit and thought, people who share a group of identity is fostered by a unique system. All in all, the traditions and culture are our origin. They depict our identity as a chinese.

“Mai Jin” (邁进), “Mai Jin” (迈进), means “Step forward”. “Mai” is written in traditional Chinese word whereas “Jin” is written in modern simplified Chinese word. This depicts that Chinese traditions and culture have never stop changing and improving. The committee members of Pesta Tanglung Universiti Malaya 2019 believe that innovation and creativity should not be abandoned in our journey of preserving the traditions and culture . We also do hope that more people will be reached out regarding the amazing and wonderful traditions and culture when we are striving hard to promote the traditions and culture to the public. Hoping that Pesta Tanglung Universiti Malaya can stride forward, we wish that Chinese traditions and culture will be etched deeply in everyone’s heart for eternity.

We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude that we have successfully organised Pesta Tanglung Universiti Malaya for the past consecutive 18 years. Now, we are heading to the 19th. In this dynamic phenomenon, change, creativity and innovation are keys for us to promote the Chinese traditions and culture to the new generation. With those, they might understand and appreciate the essence of the inherited traditions from different perspectives.

Chinese traditions and culture are our origin, root and soul. For the past five thousand years, they manifest our thoughts, our values and even our beliefs which are now becoming our identities and symbols. We, as the younger generation should realise that we have to shoulder the responsibilities of promoting and preserving the Chinese traditions and culture. United we stand, divided we fall. The committees of Pesta Tanglung Universiti Malaya 2019 aim to unite the people, hand in hand, protect and preserve the meaningful Chinese traditions and culture.
